Dear friends,

It’s been an incredible six years. I’ve learned and grown so much as a designer, advisor, and an entrepreneur. Bionic Hippo has opened doors I never could have imagined possible. It’s something I’ll never be able to forget.

We’ve had the privilege of working on some awesome projects. I’ve had the personal privilege of working with Kevin Dean, Ian Hirschfeld, Connie Chan, Patrick Feger, Greg Skloot, and Hugh Guiney — the most talented and promising designers and developers I know.

The end of Bionic Hippo is bittersweet. It’s time for us all to explore new avenues and try new things. It’s hard to let go of something I’ve spent six years building, but that’s how you grow. We’re all excited to show you what we’re capible of.

SplashScore, developed by Apifia, Inc., is a Facebook application that gamifies social interactions, allowing you to measure your social influence in meaningful, actionable ways. We partnered with them to create the SplashScore brand, logo, and user experience.

Facebook presents an interesting challenge – there's lots of data, but meaningful representation and reporting is absolutely crucial. We designed the SplashScore user interface and user experience to make social influence make sense. It's easy to see how you stack up, how your friends are doing, and how you can improve!

Of A Revolution approached us with a three year old brand in desperate need of a makeover. Their existing online presence had gone from cool and sleek to drab and lifeless. They asked for a punch of color and a tasteful (and useful) social connection.

The band has a huge online following with several fansites, message boards, and live album sales. We encorporated all of the primary fan outlets into the site to create a digital hub for everything O.A.R.

With a new album on the way, O.A.R.'s new digital brand has been completely revitalized with a whole new aesthetic and direct, relevant social interaction with fans.

StereoPill is a webapp that allows event planners, DJs, and wedding planners to crowdsource event playlists to their attendees. Guests can cast their vote for their favorite song and vote up existing songs in the playlist.

We built this application in conjunction with the awesome guys at Terrible Labs who helped us bring this gorgeous and intuitive UI to life.

Northeastern Shuffle

Northeastern University in Boston, MA is notorious for the bureaucratic runaround known as the "Northeastern Shuffle." As Alma Mater to 80% of Bionic Hippo, we decided to give current Northeastern students a voice — if we enable direct, neutral, and meaningful communication between the University and students, will conditions improve?

NUshuffle is a self-initiated project that has taken the NU campus by storm. Since its launch, students have given thousands of unique comments on anything from Dining Halls to Course Registration.

In return for their feedback, the site dishes out badges and achievements for rating specific departments or reaching milestones on the site. Students can also redeem points earned from ratings for free food, laundry, and swag on campus.

GreenBeta, an IT security firm, has developed various technologies that are able to detect when a company's server has been compromised by hackers, usually long before it is discovered internally. Using this information, they help companies defend servers against present and future threats.

We created a website that presents users with a clean, safe, and inviting experience — crucial in an industry where trust comes at a high premium. The visuals are easy to understand and clearly outline how the company and their services work.

Can a viral campaign ever be 'too' successful? Facebook seems to think so.

We created a video reveal page for Underoath's new "Paper Lung" music video as part of a 48-hour viral marketing experiment. With over 6,000 tweets, 5,000 mailing list signups, and 6,000 Facebook posts, the social media giant's automated system assumed our app was a spambot due to the sheer volume of sharing.

We replaced the posting system with a Like button and still managed to garner over 11,000 Likes in only 24 hours.

Mission accomplished? Oh yes.

CSSDA Design Awards Site of the Day

For the past five or six years my personal website has avoided any serious attention, from both myself and prospective visitors. A few months ago I decided that needed to change.

I stepped out of my comfort zone and illustrated an elaborate and experimental interface for my personal portfolio. I wanted to create something unlike anything I had seen before. I take my position of "observing and disregarding web design trends" very seriously.

The reception has been astronomical. Site traffic has increased by a factor of twelve and I have been recognized by design inspiration collections and catalogues across the globe.

We constructed a webstore for a socially responsible clothing brand with a clean, modern, and functional aesthetic. The shopping experience is fun and easy, and it is immediately evident to the shopper what charity their purchase will benefit.

We built this store with a strong focus on helping the user complete their purchase with as little fuss as possible. The charitable fixation of the company is echoed through the product listings, an ethos statement, and its own dedicated page.

We were tasked with constructing a network of sites for Everfine and their sister companies.

There are multiple divisions of the company that focus on different aspects of music creation, production, and presentation. Each site needed to have a unique structure and function, while still maintaining a cohesive and harmonious brand.

Along with the production of five beautiful websites, we devised the "Everfine Network Bar" to connect each of the Everfine sites in a much more unifying and creative way than simply listing them in the footer. It is an unchanging design element that exists across every site, so the function and unity is clear.
